Hidup di kota metropolitan kedua setelah Jakarta, yakni di Surabaya, tentu tidak mudah bagi masyarakat. Terlebih untuk orang yang sudah lansia seperti sejoli renta yang akrab disapa Mbah Niah (80) dan suaminya Mbah Muhammad (95).

Untuk membiayai kebutuhan hidup, keduanya harus banting tulang dengan berjualan rujak cingur yang mereka hargai Rp 10 ribu untuk satu porsinya.

Penghasilan yang didapat, tentu saja tidak menentu. Terkadang mereka hanya bisa menjual delapan porsi, bahkan tidak menjual satu porsi pun.
“Kadang-kadang kalau ramai 8 piring, kadang laku 5 piring, kadang gak laku sama sekali, kalau laku 5 porsi hanya pas buat bayar becak,” ungkap Mbah Niah.

Ya, di usia mereka yang sudah tidak lagi muda, membuat mereka harus menyewa becak, untuk membawa berbagai peralatan berjualan. Tarif becak itu sendiri sebesar Rp 40 ribu. Karenanya, Mbah Niah terkadang tidak membawa pulang uang sepeser pun, kecuali rasa capek dan lelah.
Sedangkan Mbah Niah harus mengisi perut laparnya, serta membayar uang sewa kontrakan senilai Rp 1,5 juta per tahun.
Mbah Niah dan sang suami tinggal di sebuah kamar kontrakan sempit berukuran 2×2,5 meter yang berada di daerah Sawah Pulo SR Gang 2 No 12, Surabaya, melansir grid.id.

Karena minimnya ruangan, Mbah Niah harus sampai tidur di lantai yang penuh debu, sedangkan suaminya tidur di atas dipan kecil.
